(AP Project) Analyzing Schools From a Materialist Lens
BASIS Advisor: Mr. Michael Hatch Internship location: AP Research/ASU SAE Baja Onsite Mentor: Mr. James Contes, Senior Lecturer, Polytechnic School of Engineering
Many recent efforts at reform, such as "No Child Left Behind" and the Common Core have tried to improve America's education system. Yet these efforts often focus on improving standards, rather than improving the environment of education such as teacher-student relationships, quality of education, and, in particular, student motivation. My project will hypothesize the signatures of materialism, a social phenomenon associated with an intense focus on acquiring material possessions, within a classroom environment, in the hopes that it may lead to greater insight towards education reform.
