Project Abstract

In the world of textile arts, there are many ways to take an image from one’s imagination and create a physical representation of that image. With a variety of media options, including dyeing, quilting, and embroidering, it is often difficult to decide how to create a desired design. The goal of this project is to investigate different methods of textile embellishment as well as the process of creating a textile design from start to finish. While onsite at El Sol Quilting Studio, I will witness and partake in electronic quilting, hand-guided quilting, fabric dyeing, and screen printing. This will allow me to develop a better understanding of the creation process by observing and utilizing the methods in question. By using the methods that I am investigating, I will be able to illustrate the benefits of each and present works of art that highlight each technique. Through intensive work with textile manipulation techniques, I will be able to create art that effectively utilizes and demonstrates different methods of textile manipulation.
